الملخص الملخص EFFECT OF WINTER OIL AND DORMEX SPRAYS ON FRUIT QUALITY AND STORAGE ABILITY OF LECONTE PEAR FRUITS This investigation was carried out during 2005 and 2006 seasons to study the effect of spraying Leconte pear trees with winter oil at 2 % and Dormex at 1, 2 % each alone or in combination as Dormancy breaking agents to study their effect on fruit quality at harvest time and storage ability through marketing for 6 days under room temperature. The data revealed that dormex at 1 or 2 % each alone or with winter oil significantly increased fruit weight, firmness and SSC/acid ratio at harvest than spraying with winter oil or the control. Furthermore, winter oil alone or with dormex significantly reduced the percent of total loss in fruit weight than those sprayed with dormex alone or the control. Fruit firmness was reduced but total caroteniods and SSC/acid ratio were increased through marketing after 6 days from harvest. In this respect, sprayed Le-Conte pear with both winter oil and Dormex at 2 % gave a more pronounced effect on fruit quality at harvest time and through marketing.

الملخص الملخص EVALUATION OF SOME OLIVE CULTIVARS GROWN UNDER EGYPTIAN CONDITIONS This study was carried out during the two successive seasons of 2005 and 2006 on three olive cultivars (Toffahi, Kroniaki and Picual) grown under newly reclaimed soil in Egypt to evaluate fruit production as well as the physical and chemical properties of the olives. The obtained data revealed that Kroniaki produced a higher yield per tree (44.2 Kg) while Toffahi and Picual gave 37.8 and 36.2 Kg as a mean of two seasons, respectively. The data also reveal that pollen viability and fruit set percentage of Kroniaki were higher than those obtained from Toffahi or Picual. Whereas, average fruit weight and size of Toffahi was higher than Picual and Kroniaki. Furthermore, Kroniaki cultivar produced a higher oil content 49.9 % compared to Picual 40.4 % and Toffahi 20.4 % based on dry weight. Yet, Picual gave a higher soluble solids with lower acidity than those obtained form Kroniaki and Toffahi cultivars.

الملخص الملخص EVALUATION OF GRAFTING COMPATIBILITY AND GROWTH OF SOME NEW ORANGE CULTIVARS BUDDED ON VOLKAMER LEMON The present study was undertaken during the seasons of 2005/2006 and 2006/2007 to evaluate the degree of grafting compatibility, budding success percentage and seedling growth of some new orange cultivars namely; Navelina, New hall, Navelate and Washington Navel and Valencia oranges budded on Volkamer lemon. The obtained results reveal that, budded Valencia orange on Volkamer lemon gave a higher percentage of graftage success than those obtained from the other orange cultivars under study. Furthermore, budding New hall or Navelate on the same rootstock gave vigorous seedling with higher shoot length, thickness, number of leaves and leaf area than those obtained from Navelina orange. Whereas, budding Valencia orange on Volkamer lemon gave a taller seedling than those obtained from Washington Navel orange. In this respect, budding New hall or Navelate on Volkamer lemon presented a good seedling than obtained from Valencia, Washington Navel orange and Navelina orange which presented a lower seedling growth.

الملخص الملخص ASTRINGENCY REMOVAL AND RIPENING PROCESS OF PERSIMMONS TREATED WITH ETHEPHON AND ETHANOL The present study was carried out during 2006 and 2007 seasons to evaluate the effect of dipping persimmon fruits in different concentrations of ethephon and ethanol solutions as post harvest treatment to remove astringency and hasten fruit ripening. The data indicated that ethephon at 750 ppm was superior effect for reducing fruit firmness and total tannins with increasing total soluble solids and enhancing ripening process than dipping fruits in 500 or 1000 ppm. Moreover, ethanol application at 25 % was suitable to accelerate fruit ripening with increasing soluble solids than dipping fruits in 50 % concentration. Since, these treatments were more effective to remove fruit astringency through reducing tannin content. Also, these solutions are save for human health.

الملخص الملخص EFFECT OF DATE OF GRAFTING ON SUCCESS PERCENTAGE AND GROWTH OF MANGO TRANSPLANTS This study was carried out during the seasons of 2006 and 2007 to present the suitable date of grafting for Zebda, Fagriklan, Seedek, Ewais and Keitt mango cultivars onto Zebda rootstock in order to obtain a higher successful grafts of mango cultivars. Grafting mango cultivars with the cleft method especially on April produced a higher percent of successful grafts and gave highest scion growth with longer, thicker shoot and more number of leaves on the seedling than those taken in September. Furthermore, grafting both Zebda and Fagriklan on Zebda rootstock gave higher values of successful grafts and growth of the transplant than those obtained from grafting Seedek, Ewais and Keitt on the same rootstock. Whereas, Ewais and Keitt cultivars gave less vigorous grafts than that obtained from the other cultivars in the two dates of grafting.
