الملخص الملخص EFFECT OF WATER STRESS AND FERTILIZATION WITH INORGANIC NITROGEN AND ORGANIC CHICKEN MANURE ON VEGETATIVE GROWTH CHARACHTERS OF POTATO Two field experiments were performed at the Experimental Station, Faculty of Agriculture, Mansoura University during the two successive summer seasons of 2007 and 2008. This investigation was aimed to study the effect of water tension treatments, mineral of nitrogen and organic fertilizers combinations and their interactions on vegetative growth characters of potato (Solanum tuberosum L.) cv. Spunta. Each irrigation treatments was conducted in a separate experiment. Every separate experiment laid-out in randomized complete block design with four replicates. The main results of this investigation could be summarized as follows: 1-The results indicated that there was a significant effect on plant height, leaf area/plant, number of stems/plant, fresh and dry weights of plant foliage as well as total chlorophyll content as a result of irrigation tension in both seasons, except plant height in the first season only. However, irrigation tension did not affect number of leaves/plant in both seasons. Irrigation at 26cb (5360.17 m3 water/ha) i.e. 54.1% moisture from field capacity produced the highest averages of plant height, number of leaves and stems/plant, leaf area/plant, fresh and dry weights of plant foliage in both seasons. While, irrigation at 22cb (6209.32 m3 water/ha) i.e. 59.3% from field capacity recorded the highest averages of total chlorophyll content in both seasons. 2- Fertilization treatments had a significant effect on all studied characters during both seasons. Application of 60% inorganic nitrogen fertilizer (238 kg N/ha) + 40% organic chicken manure (158 kg N/ha) markedly recorded the highest values of these characters, except chlorophyll content which resulted from application of 100% mineral nitrogen fertilizer (396 kg N/ha) as compared with other fertilization treatments. 3- The interaction between studied factors had a significant effect on plant height, leaf area/plant and number of stems/plant in both seasons as well as fresh weight of plant foliage in the second season. Irrigation at 26cb (5360.17 m3 water/ha) i.e. 54.1% moisture from field capacity in addition fertilization with 60% inorganic nitrogen fertilizer (238 kg N/ha) and 40% organic chicken manure (158 kg N/ha) markedly recorded the highest averages of these characters as compared with other fertilization treatments.

الملخص الملخص EFFECT OF STORAGE METHODS AND PERIODS ON GERMINATION OF ONION SEED Two laboratory experiments were conducted at Gemmeiza Agriculture Research Station (Gharbeia Governorate) to study the effect of both storage and methods of storage on viability of onion seed during the period from August 2006 to August 2008. Randomize Complete Blocks Design with three replications was used. The results clearly showed that : 1- There was a progressive decline in germination percentage with each increase in the storage period. The decline in germination percentage after 12 months was 10.36 % and 21.42 % after 24 months. Seed germination percentage was markedly affected by methods of storage. Utilizing of polyethylene bags under Frigidaire at 5-8 ?C or freezing resulted in higher seed germination percentage. There was a significant interaction effect of period and method of storage. The higher percentage of germination was observed under the treatment of storage period for 4 months in paper bags without and additions under normal room conditions. 2- Germination rate (days) was markedly affected by storage period, but differences between treatments were not always significant. There are a progressive increase in number of days to complete germination with each increase in storage period. Germination rate was significantly affected by storage method. The fastest rates of germination were observed with storage of onion seed in polyethylene in normal room conditions. 3- Seedling length was markedly affected by storage period. Storage at 4 and 8 months were associated with highest length of seedlings i.e . 3.85 and 3.84 cm), respectively. Seedling length was markedly affected by storage method. The maximum seed length (3.84 cm) was observed with storage of seed in polyethylene bags without any additions under normal room conditions It can be concluded that storage onion seed for four months in paper bags in normal room conditions followed by burlap bags in normal room conditions gave the best results in germination percentage and other seedling parameters.

Results showed that increasing watering tension from 24cb through 36cb gradually with great significant decreased the averages onion bulb weight (g), bulb diameter (cm), total bulbs yield (t/fad), bulbs marketable yield (t/fad), and significantly reduced the losses percentage after 2+4+6 months in both seasons. However, increasing watering tension from 24cb through 36cb significantly increased culls bulb yield (t/fad) by each increase in irrigation tension. Normal irrigation of water supply at 24cb markedly recorded the heighst losses percentage of bulbs dry weight in both seasons. Results indicated that application of 75% NPK+ Soft guard significantly increased average bulb weight (g/plant), bulbs diameter (cm), total bulbs yield (t/fad) and marketable bulbs yield (t/fad) compared with the rest fertilization treatments. However, culls bulbs yield was not significantly response to mineral and bio-fertilization in both seasons. No significant effect was recorded due to the interaction between irrigation tension treatments and mineral as well as bio-fertilization on bulb weight (g), bulb diameter (cm), total bulbs yield (t/fad), culls bulb yield (t/fad) and bulbs marketable yield (t/fad), while significant interaction was recorded on post harvest losses percent after 2+4+6 months in both seasons.

الملخص الملخص Effect of planting dates, biofertilization and NK combination levels on: I-Growth and yield components of sugar beet. Three field experiments were carried out in 2000/2001, 2001/2002 and 2002/2003 seasons at the Experimental Station, Faculty of Agriculture, Mansoura University to study the effect of planting dates, biofertilization and NK combination levels on growth and yield components of sugar beet (Beta vulgaris, L.) cv. Beta Poly 4. The main results of this research could be summarized as follows: 1- Planting sugar beet on 1st Oct. resulted in the highest significant values of most growth attributes and yield components at 120 and 150 days after planting in the three seasons 2- Application of biofertilization treatments showed significant impact on root and foliage fresh and dry weights, LAI at 120 and 150 days from sowing (in the three seasons), CGR (in the first season), RGR and NAR (in the second and third seasons), root and foliage fresh weights as well as root length and diameter (in the three seasons). Inoculation soil with Rhizobacterin biofertilizer significantly improved most growth attributes, yield components, and produced the highest values in the three seasons. 3- All growth attributes and yield components under study revealed significant effect due to NK combination levels in the three seasons. Application of 80 kg N + 48 kg K2O/fad resulted in the highest values of root and foliage fresh weights at 120 and 150 days from planting (in the three seasons), root and foliage dry weights at 120 and 150 days from planting (in the first season), LAI at 120 and 150 days from planting (in the second and third seasons), CGR and RGR (in the first season), NAR (in the first and second seasons), root and foliage fresh weights as well as root length and diameter (in the three seasons). In addition, application of 60 kg N + 48 kg K2O/fad produced the best results after formerly combination level, moreover it gave the highest values of root and foliage dry weights at 120 and 150 days from planting (in the second and third seasons), LAI at 120 and 150 days from planting (in the first season) and CGR as well as RGR (in the second and third seasons). 4- The interaction between biofertilization treatments X nitrogen and potassium combination levels had a significant effect on root and foliage fresh weights (in the three seasons) and root diameter in the first and third seasons. Generally, it could be concluded that planting sugar beet on 1st Oct. and application of Rhizobacterin as biofertilizer and 80 or 60 kg N + 48 kg K2O/fad in order to maximize sugar beet growth and yield components under Dakahlia conditions.

الملخص الملخص Effect of planting dates, biofertilization and NK combination levels on: II- Yield and quality of sugar beet. ABSTRACT Three field experiments were conducted at the Experimental Station, Faculty of Agriculture, Mansoura University during 2000/2001, 2001/2002 and 2002/2003 seasons to study the effect of planting dates, biofertilization treatments and NK combination levels on quality and yield characters of sugar beet (Beta vulgaris, L.) cv. Beta Poly 4. The main findings of this investigation could be summarized as follows: 1- Planting dates showed significant effect on TSS % (in the third season), sucrose % (in the second and the third seasons), purity % (in the third season), root, top and sugar yields/fad (in the three seasons). The optimum planting date that yielded the highest values of previous characters was planting sugar beet on 1st Oct. 2- Biofertilization treatments caused a significant effect on TSS % (in the second season), sucrose % (in the three seasons), purity % (in the third season), root, top and sugar yields/fad (in the three seasons). Rhizobacterin treatment produced the highest values of yield quality parameters, excluding TSS % (in the first and the third seasons) and purity % (in the second season) as well as all yield characters in the three seasons. Concerning application of the mixture of Rhizobacterin + Cerialine and Cerialine biofertilizer, its ranked after Rhizobacterin treatment, respectively with respecting their effect on quality and yield traits in the three season. On the other hand, chick treatment (without biofertilization) resulted in the lowest means ones. 3- Significant differences in all quality and yield characters under study were noticed due to NK combination levels in all growing seasons. The highest values of TSS % were obtained by application of 60 kg N + 24 kg K2O/fad (in the first season) or 60 kg N + 48 kg K2O/fad (in the second and the third seasons). However, the highest means of sucrose % and apparent purity % were resulted from application of 20 kg N + 48 kg K2O/fad in the three growing seasons, except purity % in the first season only. The highest values of root and top yields were produced from fertilizing beet plants with 80 kg N + 48 kg K2O/fad in the three seasons. However, application of 60 kg N + 48 kg K2O/fad resulted in the maximum sugar yields in addition to induced the best root and top yields/fad after formerly combination level. 4- The interaction between biofertilization treatments X NK combination levels exhibited significant effect on root and sugar yields/fad in the three seasons. Generally, it could be concluded that for maximizing sugar beet productivity under the environmental conditions of Dakhlia district, planting sugar beet on 1st Oct. as well as application of Rhizobacterin as biofertilizer and adding 80 or 60 kg N + 48 kg K2O/fad as a mineral fertilization.

- RESPONSE OF SUGAR BEET TO LEVELS AND TIMES OF POTASSIUM FERTILIZATION UNDER SALINITY CONDITIONS AT NORTHERN DELTA OF EGYPT.
J. Agric. Sci. Mansoura Univ. A.A. Kandil mhelhindi E.M. Said
الملخص الملخص RESPONSE OF SUGAR BEET TO LEVELS AND TIMES OF POTASSIUM FERTILIZATION UNDER SALINITY CONDITIONS AT NORTHERN DELTA OF EGYPT. Two field experiments were performed in a saline clay soil at EL-Hamoul Center, Kafr EL-Sheikh Governorate during two successive seasons of 1998/99 and 1999/2000 to study the effect of potassium fertilization levels and its application times on growth, yield and yield components as well as quality of sugar beet (Beta vulgaris, L.) cv Pelleno. The experiments were laid-out in a split plot design with four replicates. Each experiment included sixty treatments comprising four K- fertilization levels (12, 24, 36 and 48 kg K2O/fad) and four K-application times i.e.1/2, 2/3, 1/3 of every K-level before the first irrigation and the remaining splits were applied before the second irrigation, while, in the fourth treatment, potassium was splitted into three equal portions applied before the first, second and third irrigations, respectively. PotassiumObtained results can be summarized as follows : Combined analysis of data collected after 120 and 150 days from planting in the two seasons revealed that K-levels affected both fresh and dry weights of sugar beet roots, foliage fresh weight, both root length and root diameter (cm,ip_num,i_date,ip_num,i_date,ip_num,i_date,ip_num,i_date,ip_num,i_date,ip_num,i_date), foliage length(cm), leaf area index (LAI), crop growth rate (CGR) in g/day. Relevant results showed, also, that K levels affected other growth variables under study such as relevant growth rate (RGR) and net assimiltion rate (NAR),however, the differences failed to reach the level of significance at 5%. As far as times of K- application was concerned, combined analysis of data for the two seasons revealed that most of growth characters were not significantly affected by this factor .However, potassium fertilizer levels splitted into two equal portions or into two thirds and one third applied beforethe first and second irrigations, respectively, seemed to be ,in general, more favourable under conditions of the current study. Likwise, the interactions between potassium fertilization levels and potassium application times did not induce clear effects on the averages of most characters except leaf area index (LAI,ip_num,i_date,ip_num,i_date,ip_num,i_date,ip_num,i_date,ip_num,i_date) since the highest means were recorded due to K-level of 36 or 48 kg K20/fad applied as 2/3+ 1/3 or 1/2+1/2 before the first and second irrigations, respectively. With regard to both root and top yields(t/fad) as well as sugar yield (t/fad), it was noted that incremental doses of K-application favoured these variables upto 36 kg K20/fad .Increasing K20 level upto 48 kg K20 /fad did not exhibit signficant increases as far as that these characters were concerned since higher concentrations of Na+ could replace K+, in part, for uptake by sugar beet plants under such soil circumstances of the present study. It is worthy to note, also, that neither levels of K-fertilization nor times of its application affected significantly total soluble solids (TSS), sucrose %and apparent purity % in any of the two seasons and combined analysis ,as well.
